Special Feature: Internet Safety | NCJRS

Malicious cyber actors across the world target U.S. citizens, businesses, and military and government entities every day. These cyber criminals cause billions of dollars in losses, making cybercrime a growing threat for law enforcement.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received more than 350,000 complaints with losses exceeding $2.7 billion in 2018. The total number of complaints and estimated losses were the highest the center had received over the previous four years. For comparison, in 2017, the center received 301,580 complaints, totaling $1.4 billion in losses.

Faced with the growing threat of cyber crime, it is crucial for state and local police agencies to invest in cyber programs. From the standpoint of a criminal, cybercrime is relatively low-risk and has the potential for enormous rewards. Until police agencies become adept at preventing and investigating cybercrime, there may not be significant deterrents to

State of GarageGames.com

I once heard someone say that GarageGames is like a cockroach that never dies. Truth be told, the heart of GarageGames is the community that drives it and GarageGames “formal” hasn’t played a role in GG for nearly as long as we did.

100 blogs later…Leaving the garage

Roughly eight years ago I attended my first GDC. While at GDC, I finally got to meet some GarageGames employeed that I’ve only spoken to online. Thanks to the help of Deborah Marshall, I managed to get an introduction to Matt Fairfax…the rest was history.

Linear Programming — from Wolfram MathWorld

Linear programming, sometimes known as linear optimization, is the problem of maximizing or minimizing a linear function over a convex polyhedron specified by linear and non-negativity constraints. Simplistically, linear programming is the optimization of an outcome based on some set of constraints using a linear mathematical model.

Linear programming is implemented in the Wolfram Language as LinearProgramming[c,
m, b], which finds a vector which minimizes
the quantity cx subject to the constraints mx>=b and x_i>=0 for x=(x_1,...,x_n).

Linear programming theory falls within convex optimization theory and is also considered to be an important part of operations
. Linear programming is extensively used in business and economics, but
may also be used to solve certain engineering problems.

Examples from economics include Leontief’s input-output model, the determination of shadow prices, etc., an example of a business application would be maximizing profit in a factory that manufactures a number of
